Broadband Legislative Sausage Making

House and Senate lawmakers are mounting increasing pressure on the White House to include a specific set-aside for broadband funding in an infrastructure plan. As John reported, several House members on Tuesday joined the call for such dedicated resources. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.V.), a co-chairwoman of the Senate Broadband Caucus, said she remains optimistic. “The last conversation that I had with the administration, they were really receptive to this,” she told MT. “I think they still want to be more principle-guided and so I think it’s going to be incumbent on us to put a sort-of imprint on it.”

“House Energy and Commerce Committee lawmakers are planning multiple telecom hearings in the weeks ahead: a Jan. 30 broadband infrastructure hearing and, sources familiar with the planning tell POLITICO, an FCC oversight hearing on Feb. 16,”
