Trump’s Rural Broadband Goal Won’t Be Easy, and it will Be Costly

I have posted this Bloomberg examination of the projected cost of the Rural Broadband portion of the Trump Infrastructure Initiative under Economics. In addition to some cost estimates, the paper has links to papers discussing the economic considerations for rural broadband telecommunications infrastructure. One of the issues mentioned was that for rural America the Obama ARRA Broadband initiative was a failure, as it did not expand rural coverage. Not a valid assessment in Nevada County. SmarterBroadband received $2.3 million under the ARRA program to build out its wireless networks in Nevada County, connecting 100s of homes and some schools to high-speed connections. The backbone network will enable 100s of more homes to be connected.

Read the paper and click on the links to the economic studies, providing a vision of what more and better broadband could do for rural Sierra Counties.
